Asherah, Lady of the Tree of Life

The Tree of Life, The Jewish symbol for the Torah and for the Shekinah, is an image rooted in pre-Israelite history. The Tree of Life was once a symbol for Asherah, a Near Eastern Goddess of love, fertiliy, and wisdom ...

Although Asherah worship disappeared as strict monotheism took hold, the spirit of the divine feminine remained. .. Why represent divinity as a tree? A tree, like the Divine, is a source of life not only for itself but for the creatures who live in it or eat its fruit. A tree has many branches, reminding us there are many pathways to holiness.

She is a Tree of Life to those who hold fast to her - this tree is the Lady, the Shekinah
Zohar 1 :27B
